Huge success for Old Homes Super Homes
![]() If receiving a few visitors over the weekend is not your cup of tea. Imagine having over 600 in one weekend. This is what just one of the Old Home Superhomes received this weekend when it opened its doors to the public. The Open House event was a huge success, with double the number of visitors since the previous Open House, and many visitors returning from pervious visits to check up on progress. The Sustainable Energy Academy’s, Old Homes Super Homes Network (members of the Existing Homes Alliance) is a network of old homes which have been retrofitted by homeowners to cut CO2 emissions. This has included innovative measures such as ground source heat pumps, photovoltaics, low energy lighting, in addition to energy saving measures such as solid wall insulation and internal insulation, using environmentally friendly fabrics such as sheep’s wool and recycled wood fibre. The network aims to provide exemplar case studies to show that it is possible to achieve deep cuts in CO2 emissions from the UK’s existing housing stock. If you missed your opportunity to see one of the homes this weekend, the Camden Ecohouse, a Victorian house renovated to cut carbon emissions by up to 80 per cent, is open for free public tours every Sunday, 2-5pm, until 12th October. For more details visit the Camden Council website. To find out more about the Old Homes Super Homes Network, visit the Sustainable Energy Academy website .
